THE LOOP — A new hotel opening this summer in the Loop will feature a rooftop bar, the latest in an arms race among Downtown hotel projects.
Lola Braza, a Latin-themed bar with a "sexy, soulful ambience" at 39 S. LaSalle St., will open in June atop the Kimpton Gray, a 293-room hotel coming to 122 W. Monroe St. this spring, Kimpton Hotels said Wednesday.
The 15th-floor bar will feature a retractable, "open-air" roof, Kimpton said.
The bar adds yet another rooftop Downtown, where a bevy of new hotels are also bringing more options for after-hours drinks. The LondonHouse hotel plans the first "tri-level" rooftop at 360 N. Michigan Ave., while the new Conrad Chicago in River North and the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel at State Street and Wacker Drive are also working on their own high-rise bars.
Lola Braza, which will seat more than 150, will focus on Argentinean and Peruvian dishes as well as Pisco-inspired cocktails with ingredients including roasted chili, Mezcal and pineapple. An executive chef and mixologist have yet to be announced.
Renderings or images of the rooftop are not yet available.
Kimpton announced plans to convert the historic New York Life building, 39 S. LaSalle, to a hotel in 2014.
