LINCOLN PARK — A vandal threw a brick through the front door of J Nail Club early Easter Sunday, but didn't steal anything except for documents, the salon owner said.

According to police and the owner, someone threw a brick into the front glass door of the salon, 1454 W. Fullerton Ave., around 6:15 a.m. Sunday, leaving a mess of scattered glass and papers.

It's the first time the nail salon has been vandalized since it opened nine years ago, owner Jimmy Wong said.

Wong captured the incident on surveillance video, but declined to provide the footage. He said the vandal appeared to be a "professional" because his face was covered and he was wearing gloves.

The video shows the vandal passing by the salon a couple times and then trying to break open the lock before throwing a brick through the window, according to Wong.

Wong said it cost about $1,000 to repair the window.

"Everybody is still healthy, so it's fine. It's good luck," Wong said with a laugh.

Wong considers himself lucky because the vandal only stole some documents, including credit card statements. He said he hasn't noticed a significant uptick in crime in the DePaul University area.

Wong said he encourages nearby businesses to install surveillance video because it can help catch suspects in similar incidents.

Burglaries were up in Lincoln Park last year.

The 43rd Ward, which includes Lincoln Park and parts of Old Town and the Gold Coast, saw a 6 percent increase in burglaries in 2015, according to police. In 2015, 153 burglaries were reported, compared to 142 in 2014.
