HYDE PARK — Artist Rodrigo Lara Zendejas is reinterpreting his grandparents garden in Mexico for a new exhibit at the Hyde Park Art Center.

“La Paz” opens on Sunday at the art center, 5020 S. Cornell Ave.

The exhibit mixes clay statues with paintings, projections and sound to Zendejas’ experience in his grandparents’ garden in La Paz, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

It combines images of every day people with saints to explore the common ground shared between gardens and shrines.

A reception will be held at 6 p.m. on May 22 and Zendejas will be at the art center at 6 p.m. May 25 talk about the exhibit.
