LINCOLN PARK — On the day of the teachers strike, CPS students can learn how to understand and analyze film at Facets, an independent theater and nonprofit.
The free, all-day camp is set for April 1 at Facets, 1517 W. Fullerton Ave., from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. for two separate age groups: 5 to 7 and, 8 to 12 years old.
During the camp, kids will watch films from the Chicago International Children's Film Festival and learn the basics of film grammar, syntax and form.
"We see April 1 as a unique opportunity to provide students with what they most often do not learn in school — how to become smart, critical viewers, despite the immense volume at which they consume media," said owner Milos Stehlik in a prepared statement.
"We hope that parents take advantage to help turn their kids into smart viewers."
Founded in 1975, Facets houses a film library and screens a variety of independent and art films. It also hosts film education programming and distributes films.
To register for the camp, visit www.facets.org or call 773-281-9075, ext. 3056.
The camp is part of Facet Kids, a streaming platform that screens award-winning children's films from 48 countries. For more information, visit the website.
CPS announced a list of 250 sites where parents can take their kids when teachers strike April 1.
