OLD TOWN — Fans of Second City now have a convenient new spot to eat and drink before or after enjoying a comedy show.

The improv institution recently opened 1959 Kitchen & Bar, named after the year Second City was founded, on the second floor of Piper's Alley, 230 W. North Ave.

The retro-themed restaurant and bar serves a variety of small plates, like a Charcuterie plate, chicken wings, grilled lemongrass shrimp and slow roasted lamb shoulder.

Drink-wise, there's a selection of cocktails (including the "Dark Comedy," with spiced rum, cherry brandy and lime) and craft beer (like 3Floyds and Two Brothers) to choose from.

Mark Matijevich, who is responsible for crafting all of Second City's menus, is the executive chef.

1959 Kitchen & Bar is open daily from 5 p.m. - 2 a.m. Monday - Friday, 12 p.m. - 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
