HYDE PARK — Augustana Lutheran Church will host the Chicago premiere of the chorale piece “St. John Passion” for its Good Friday services.

The church, 5500 S. Woodlawn Ave., will host a performance of the work by Bob Chilcott at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The piece is contemporary, but not atonal, according to the church, and was first performed in England in 2013.

The choir at Augustana will be joined by Doug Jabara as Jesus, William Tompsett as Pilate and soprano Nicole Cooper led by conductor Jerrad Fenske.

The performance is free and open to the public.
