WASHINGTON PARK — Prom is an art on the South Side and a photographer and seamstress are celebrating the right-of-passage in a new exhibit opening Friday at the Washington Park Arts Incubator.

Photographer Maurene Cooper and seamstress Suzette Opara will open “Runway to Reality” during a 6 p.m. reception Friday at the arts incubator, 301 E. Garfield Blvd.

The exhibit is a celebration of the joy and pageantry of the annual celebration through the textiles, color and opulence of prom.

The exhibit, which runs through June 10, also includes an artist talk on April 27 and a fashion show on June 5 at the Stony Island Arts Bank.

The show is the winning submission from an open call for exhibitions by the arts incubator.
