LINCOLN PARK — There's a new snow monkey at Lincoln Park Zoo ... and the photos and video of it are adorable.
The Japanese macaque was born Friday to 11-year-old Izumi at the zoo's Regenstein Macaque Forest.
The infant is clinging closely to mom, so the zoo doesn't yet know its sex. It joins the troop of nine snow monkeys at the zoo. The name is still TBD.
“This is an exciting time for our macaques as the troop continues to create a second generation of snow monkeys at the zoo,” said Curator of Primates Maureen Leahy. “As always we are cautiously optimistic but the infant appears healthy and has begun nursing, one of the first essential milestones. Both Izumi and the infant are being closely monitored by animal care staff.”
The adorable baby monkey and its mother are currently on exhibit at the Regenstein Macaque Forest, which is open daily, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
