CHICAGO — A woman has died after being shot while she and her one-year-old daughter were held hostage last weekend in Chicago Lawn, according to authorities.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at 2:23 p.m. Friday in the 3000 block of West 60th Street, said Officer Janel Sedevic, Chicago Police spokeswoman. Officers found a man, Darnell Williams, holding Taylor Flowers and the child against their will in his apartment.

SWAT officers entered the home at 9:33 p.m. Friday and found Williams, 26, and the 23-year-old Flowers unresponsive with gunshot wounds to their heads, Sedevic said. Williams was pronounced dead on the scene, and Flowers was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

Flowers, of the 1500 block of South Wabash Avenue, died Thursday at Christ Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Her death has been ruled a homicide, and police have determined that she was shot by Williams in a murder-suicide, Sedevic said.

The child was brought to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, Sedevic said. She has been placed into the custody of a relative, said Department of Child and Family Services spokeswoman Veronica Resa.

Williams death has been ruled a suicide by the county medical examiner. Police said they have closed their investigation.
