UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — Long week? Looking to fire some rubber balls at a few equally wiped-out adults and then eat tamales together?

You are in luck. An adult dodgeball tournament is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Columbus Elementary School in Ukrainian Village, 1003 N. Leavitt St.  The Tamale Spaceship food truck will be parked outside of the school and there will be an after-party at J&M Tap, 957 N. Leavitt St.

A fundraiser for Friends of Columbus, the school's nonprofit parent group, the event is open to the public and so far has about 70 players registered on 10 teams, though a few more are needed to round out a couple of teams, according to Sarah Boone, one of the organizers.

Some of the team names are "The Preschool Parents" or "The FIrst Graders," though there is a house music team and a team made up of workers from a local bar, West on North, Boone said.

The cost to participate is $15 per person or $120 for a team of eight and the winning team will get a trophy and prizes, according to a flier.

Anyone interested in joining can email Boone at shboone@mindspring.com.

"We'd love three or four individuals or even a team of eight, if anyone is motivated enough to rally eight friends and form one,” Boone said.
