U. of C. Hosting Balkan Dance Party All Weekend

HYDE PARK — It’s a Balkan dance party all weekend at the University of Chicago.

The university will host the 51st annual Eastern European Folk Festival Friday through Sunday at the International House, 1414 E. 59th St.

The weekend-long event features dance workshops during the day and food, concerts and dance parties until midnight in the evenings.

Workshops start at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and are $12 each and feature the dance and singing styles of Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Turkey and the Roma.

The concerts and party start at 7 p.m. Saturday with performances by Balkanski Ritmi Bitov Orchestra, Chris Bajmakovich and Muzika4U, Balkanski Igri, Dukati Biseri, Verea and Ellas, Romanasul.

A dinner is also planned for 6 p.m. Sunday at a location that has yet to be announced.

Weekend passes are available for $170 on the event website.
