HYDE PARK — For those who want to get out of the city in March, the South Shore Line will happily send you back for free.

The train line that runs between Millennium Station and the South Bend airport is offering free rides on trains coming into Chicago from Sunday through March 18.

The promotion is an effort to get more people to ride the train, which runs along the lakefront through Woodlawn and Hyde Park, into the city.

All trains coming into the city will be free Sunday, and trains arriving after 9:30 a.m. at Millennium Station will be free on Monday through March 18.

One-way tickets normally range from $6 to $13.

The train line, which is separate from Metra and run by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, is in the process of installing Wi-Fi on its trains and will begin allowing bikes on trains in April.
