DOWNTOWN — Starbucks fiends who live or work near Millennium Park will soon have another option.

The ubiquitous Seattle coffee chain will open a new store in the Mila apartment tower under construction at 200 N. Michigan Ave. Once open, the store will be Starbucks' fourth in the four-block stretch on Michigan Avenue between Madison Street and South Water Street.

The chain's Downtown prevalence surpasses that of even Walgreens, which will soon have four stores in five blocks on State Street

A Starbucks "coming soon" sign is now visible in the future store, which until this week was obscured by scaffolding and other barriers protecting the high-rise construction site at Michigan and Lake Street. A Starbucks spokeswoman confirmed that the company will open a shop there this summer.

Mila, a 42-story apartment tower, will open later this year according to its developer, The John Buck Co. Spokespeople for Starbucks and Buck did not know the coffee shop's opening date when asked.

Starbucks previously operated a store at 200 N. Michigan Ave., but closed it to make way for Mila's construction.
