NEAR NORTH SIDE — Want to learn more about neighborhood crime but don't have evenings free?

In the Near North Police District, a new daytime community policing meeting, Coffee with the Commander, begins this month.

Cmdr. George Devereaux will meet with the community the third Wednesday every month, it was announced at a Near North Unity Program meeting Monday evening.

The first meeting is set for 9:30-10:30 a.m. March 16 at Eva's Cafe, 1447 N. Sedgwick St. Additional meetings are scheduled for April 20, May 18 and June 15.

The meeting was inspired by an event series with Jenner Elementary Principal Robert E. Croston, Coffee with Croston.
