BRONZEVILLE — Expect big traffic delays on southbound Lake Shore Drive this week as two lanes near 35th Street will be closed through Friday, Chicago Department of Transportation officials announced Tuesday.

Between 6 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the lanes will be closed between 31st and 35th streets to allow for the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the drive.

The bridge will "improve access to and from the Lakefront for South Side residents, opening it up to more children and families," mayoral spokeswoman Lauren Huffman said in a Tuesday statement.

One of five pedestrian bridges planned for Lake Shore Drive on the South Side, the 35th Street bridge is slated for completion by "late summer," Huffman added.
