UPTOWN — Local artist Gyan Samara's newest exhibit, "Plein Air 2015," is on display at the Haitian American Museum of Chicago until Friday.

The exhibit opened in early February at the museum at 4654 N. Racine Ave. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and from 2-7 p.m. Fridays, according to its website.

Samara is a "fauvilist-realist" whose work reflects the way he sees color and movement, according to his website. In 2014, the plein air painter began creating 60 street scenes throughout Chicago including Jarvis Square in Rogers Park. Plein air panting takes places outside or in "open air."

"By executing the work on-site, the elements of the natural world allow me to fully appreciate the raw feel of these urban and rural settings. I capture the subtle variances of colors viewed in our natural surroundings, and express them via gesture and line born from natural tremors in my hand. I embrace these variances, and take advantage of them," his artist statement reads.

The exhibit features colorful urban and rural landscapes. Check out a slideshow of "Plein Air 2015" stills here.
