The former Children's Memorial Hospital site has sat vacant since 2012. Though the developer hoped to start demolition by the end of the year, the site was as quiet as ever during the final week of 2015.

LINCOLN PARK — The developers behind the Children's Hospital redevelopment project are hosting a pre-construction meeting next week.

The public meeting is set for March 1 at Lincoln Park High School's auditorium, 2001 N. Orchard St. It will begin at 6 p.m.

At the meeting, the developers — McCaffery Interests and Hines — will give a presentation detailing the construction schedule, the site mobilization timetable and plans for community outreach, according to Ald. Michele Smith's 43rd Ward office.

The plans include two apartment buildings with 540 units, about 160,000 square feet of retail and up to 60 condominiums.

The redevelopment of the vacant Children's Hospital site has been a hot-button issue in the neighborhood since the hospital moved from Lincoln Park to Streeterville in 2012.

Since then, McCaffery and neighbors have gone back and forth debating over the project until it went to the city for approval. Along the way, a group of neighbors filed a lawsuit in hopes of stopping the project from happening.

The developers bought the six-acre site earlier this month, marking the first step in the long-stalled redevelopment process.
