PULLMAN — Pullman celebrated its first anniversary as a national monument with our first federally funded tourist brochure.

It’s a very nice brochure packed with plenty of history about railroad mogul George Pullman’s company town, and it folds into a cute pocket-size square for the expected spike in tourists.

And that's just the beginning of good things to come, according to the bigwigs who came to the neighborhood to celebrate Friday.

Here are a few things on the horizon:

• The National Parks Service visitor center that’s planned for the Pullman Administration Building is expected to open on Labor Day 2018.

• In about six months, Pullman will get its very own permanent National Park ranger supervisor.

• Ald. Anthony Beale (9th) announced that a major hotel chain has committed to opening Pullman’s first hotel in decades once a third restaurant agrees to locate near the national M\monument. (Chipotle and Potbelly are expected to open on 111th Street this year.)
