CHICAGO — Gusting winds in Chicago Friday have knocked out power for at least 80,000 people across the city and in Maywood, with 10,800 in Chicago still without power Saturday morning, according to ComEd.

Most should see power restored by tonight, said Krissy Posey, ComEd spokeswoman. About 600 ComEd workers will be out today to help those facing outages.

In all of Northern Illinois, 226,800 people have had power restored after strong winds Friday, Posey said.

Around 5 p.m. Friday, 54,000 Chicago/Maywood customers had no power and 25,000 who reported outages had had power restored, according to Linsey Godbey, spokeswoman with ComEd.

Downtown Reporter David Matthews describes the city's reaction to the wind.

With wind blowing construction debris and uprooting trees across the city, ComEd warned customers to beware of downed power lines. Anyone who sees power lines that need repair should stay away and call 1-800-EDISON-1 or 911.

ComEd has an interactive map to show reported outages and estimated time to restoration. People can call 1-800-EDISON-1 to report outages, or text "OUT" to 26633 to report outages and "STAT" for updates.

Ald. Deb Mell (33rd) posted a video on Facebook around noon showing a live wire in the alley behind the 4200 block of North Richmond Street in Albany Park.

BE AWARE- ELECTRICAL EMERGENCY in the alley behind the 4200 block of North Richmond. ComEd and the Chicago Police/Fire Dpt are on the scene. Bateman Elementary is aware and taking all necessary precautions. Situation under control.
