CHICAGO — Do you have a stack of overdue library books and mounting fees?

Hurry up and head to your local Chicago Public Library branch, where staffers will offer a fine amnesty — but you’ll need to act fast.

Thursday is the last day you'll be able to bring in your overdue materials. Whether they're five days or five years late, the library will waive your fines.

If you’ve lost an item, you can take care of the replacement costs and the library will waive the overdue fine.

The amnesty program is part of the library's "Home of the Curious" campaign to get neighborhood folks back into the library.
