NORTH PARK — After screening a pair of movies from the 1920s earlier this month, on Wednesday the Northwest Chicago Film Society presents a modern classic, "My Own Private Idaho," dubbed a "high-water mark in '90s independent film" by critics.

Directed by Gus Van Sant, the movie stars Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix in what many considered the late actor's best role as a narcoleptic hustler.

Catch "My Own Private Idaho" 7:30 p.m., at Northeastern Illinois University's auditorium, 3701 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Building E.

Admission is $5 or $2 for NEIU students.

The film society spotlights the restoration and preservation of 35mm and 16mm film prints and also aims to promote the experience of watching movies in a theater, with an audience.

Prints are obtained from various archival sources and private collectors.
