LINCOLN SQUARE — Recent violence in the vicinity of Winnemac Park has prompted the Foster Police District to schedule an outdoor roll call/positive loitering event for Saturday.

Neighbors interested in participating in the gathering — aimed at demonstrating an active community and police presence in the area — should meet at 11 a.m. on the Damen Avenue side of the park, near the parking lot for Amundsen High School.

Residents had requested more information on positive loitering at a CAPS meeting held in late January.

The CAPS meeting, led by Cmdr. Sean Loughran, addressed a spate of criminal activity that left neighbors rattled:

• A shooting on Jan. 6, which started on Lawrence Avenue and spilled over onto Bell and Argyle, just blocks from the park.

• The Jan. 20 armed robbery of Windy City Liquors, 4959 N. Damen Ave.

• Reports of shots fired at Winnemac Park, 5101 N. Leavitt St., in the early hours of Jan. 29. Police combed the area twice — immediately after calls to 911 and again at 8 a.m. — and no shell casings or other damage were found after "extensive searches," Loughran said.
