IRVING PARK — When Mirabell reopens in March as M Pub, the food will skew heavily toward burgers, tacos, chicken wings and other bar-and-grill staples.

But fans of the former German restaurant will still be able to satisfy their craving for old favorites like schnitzel and goulash.

Owner Jeff Heil has created "Chef Werner's Underground Menu" — named for his father Werner Heil, who bought Mirabell back in 1977.

To order one of the throwback dishes, patrons in the know just have to ask for the "secret menu," which consists of a half-dozen German/Austrian items that will pay homage to M Pub's roots.

Heil announced in spring 2015 that Mirabell, 3454 W. Addison St., would close after 50 years in operation. Thanks to a surge of nostalgic support, the restaurant remained open through the end of December, when it shuttered for good to make way for M Pub.
