ANDERSONVILLE — Feb. 10 is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, opening up a season of fasting and prayers for many Christians.

Roman Catholics, and others, wear ashes on the foreheads, symbolizing the dust from which God made humans.

Traditionally for Catholics, the priest applying the ashes will say, "Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return." Catholics also wear ashes as a visible sign of penance.

Urban Village Church, which has locations across Chicago, including at 1602 W. Ainslie St., will be offering ashes at the following North Side locations Wednesday morning:

CTA Red Line Howard Station

7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

CTA Red Line Loyola Station

9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

CTA Red Line Belmont Station

5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

CTA Red Line Berwyn Station

5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
