LINCOLN PARK — Saying she never made a profit and couldn't make rent, the owner of Fritz Pastry has decided to close up shop, she announced in a Facebook post this week.
In the lengthy post, Jamie Podgorny said she can no longer afford to keep her pastry shop open after four years, the last one spent in Lincoln Park at 2233 N. Lincoln Ave. The first three were spent in Lakeview. In order to make the move, Podgorny had launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $10,000 to help cover the costs.
"Fritz has never been profitable (really, not one month in 4 years...), and I can't afford to keep it going," Podgorny wrote.
"I have worked months without a paycheck, and without being able to make rent. I did that because I truly love the community we all belong to and the faces of all of you lovelies when you get our pastries."
Despite the closure, Podgorny said she won't quit baking anytime soon.
"I will be doing personal cheffing and catering so if you want to plan a donut decorating party for your kids, a brunch bash for your friends, home cooked meals without the cooking, or just need a birthday cake, feel free to email me at chefjaimep@gmail.com," she wrote.
The Kendall College-trained chef did not provide a specific closing date.
