HYDE PARK — Chase bank was robbed for the second time in three weeks on Tuesday.

At 5:40 p.m., a black man dressed in a black coat and camouflage hat handed a teller at the bank at 1204 E. 53rd St. a note that implied he had a gun and fled with an unknown amount of money, according to officials.

Surveillance photos released by the FBI show the 6-foot-tall man walking into the bank with his hand in his coat pocket shortly before the branch closed at 6 p.m., similar to a robbery last month at the same bank.

On Jan. 13, a man walked into the bank at 5:50 p.m. shortly before the branch closed and implied he had a weapon before running away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The FBI and the Chicago police’s Central Bureau of Detectives are investigating both robberies, but so far have not linked Tuesday’s robbery with the January robbery.

Officials have not linked Tuesday's robber to the Jan. 13 robbery of the same bank.

“We have not connected him to any other bank robberies at this time,” said Garrett Croon, a spokesman for the FBI. “That could change as the investigation proceeds.”

The FBI is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in both robberies through its Bandit Tracker web site.
