LINCOLN PARK — The folks behind Umai Restaurant are opening a second location on the ground level of a DePaul University building.

A sign for Umai Restaurant went up late last week at 1217 - 1219 W. Fullerton Ave., the space formerly occupied by popular Thai restaurant Duck Walk, which shuttered last summer.

The owner of the Japanese restaurant could not be immediately reached for comment, but an employee at the original Umai location — 730 S. Clark St. in Printer's Row — said the owner is aiming to open the new location within the next few weeks.

Umai's menu offers everything from ramen and udon noodle dishes ($10-19) and sushi and sashimi rolls (starting at $6) to chef's specialty dishes like a Japanese steak ($25).

If Umai gets the liquor license its seeking, the restaurant will also sell booze. Sheffield Neighborhood Group encourages anyone who objects to granting the liquor license to either contact them (info@sheffieldneighborhood.org) or Ald. Michele Smith's 43rd ward office by Feb. 8.

The new location will be open 11:30 a.m. - 10 p.m. Mondays - Fridays, 11:30 a.m. - 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 4:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on Sundays, according to the neighborhood group.

Umai Restaurant is the second sushi restaurant to join the neighborhood recently, with Sublime Sushi moving into the former Costello's Sandwiches spot on Lincoln Avenue.
