Take a Virtual Ride on the New Lakefront Bike Path

By Alex Nitkin | January 27, 2016 4:05pm

LINCOLN PARK — The new Fullerton lakefront extension is almost finished, and from a cyclist's perspective, it looks beautiful.

On Sunday, Redditor evanart attached a GoPro to his bike helmet and took a ride along the route that, just a few months back, was in the middle of Lake Michigan. That was before 5.8 acres of landfill added extra park land over the water, splaying out enough earth for a re-routed path that separates joggers from cyclists.

The video shows a fast-forwarded view of the rider winding along the trail, distilling a miles-long distance into a few seconds.

It's a stunning video, especially if you watch it while making a motorcycle noise with your mouth, as the top Reddit commenter helpfully suggests.

With only landscaping and cosmetic additions left on the agenda, officials say the whole project should be completed by spring.
