CHICAGO — Going for a beer run may soon be a thing of the past.

Instacart, a retail delivery service, has partnered with Binny's Beverage Depot to offer same-day alcohol delivery.

That means customers can now get booze delivered in as little as an hour with the click of a button.

The way it works is customers pull up either the Instacart website on their computer or open the Instacart mobile app, select their Binny's purchase and then provide their date of birth at checkout to confirm they are 21 or or older.

In order to get the delivery, someone who is 21 or older must be present to sign for it and show proof of legal age with a valid photo ID.

Instacart, which allows customers to order groceries online, originally launched in San Francisco in 2012, and has since expanded to 18 metropolitan areas across the country.

Binny's bills itself as the Midwest's largest alcohol retailer, operating 31 stores across the region.
