ROGERS PARK — A man arrested Saturday who is suspected of allegedly shooting a 30-year-old Rogers Park woman six times earlier that night was charged Monday with failure to appear at an earlier court hearing — but has not yet been charged for the shooting contrary to previous police statements made hours earlier, police said late Tuesday morning.
Moise Kasongo, 24, of the 2000 block of West Jarvis Avenue, was charged with issuance of a warrant for failure to appear at court, police said Monday in a news release Monday night.
He appeared in bond court Monday after being arrested around 11:34 p.m. Saturday night, according to police records.
The woman was shot around 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
Ald. Joe Moore (49th) said the victim is believed to know her shooter.
According to police, the woman was walking down an alley in the 6900 block of North Greenview Avenue when she dropped her purse.
As she bent down to pick it up, she heard shots ring out and realized she'd been hit.
She sustained six gunshot wounds in her hip, stomach and arm, police said.
The woman, in serious condition, was driven to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston by a friend, and the shooter fled in a dark-colored car, according to police. She is currently recovering.
The shooting is not being treated as gang-related, police and Moore said.
"Instead, it appears to have been a domestic dispute, arising out of an argument over money that the offender believed the victim owed him," Moore wrote to residents.
The woman is recovering at St. Francis Hospital.
