LINCOLN SQUARE — Nearly five months after the building that was home to Lincoln Square Lanes and Matty K's Hardware was struck by a devastating fire, the structure is coming down.

Demolition of the building, constructed in 1918, is underway, confirmed Eric Maletsky, whose firm Malet Realty manages the property.

Crews were on site Monday and could be seen dismantling the facade brick by brick.

Much of what remained of the second story, where the bowling alley was located, now lays in rubble on the ground.

Maletsky said it has yet to be determined whether the property will be sold or whether owners will rebuild on the lot.

Fire tore through the building, 4874 N. Lincoln Ave., in the early hours of Aug. 31.

The bowling alley, which had undergone extensive renovations in 2012, was completely destroyed. Members of the Drehobl family, owners of the lanes for the past 30 years, watched their investment go up in flames.

Matty K's Hardware, which opened in 2011 on the building's ground floor below the alley, suffered irreparable water and smoke damage.
