HYDE PARK — Author John Hagedorn will tell the story of a secret plan of Latino gangs in the 1990s to create a new mafia and how it failed on Tuesday at the Seminary Cooperative Bookstore.

“The Insane Chicago Way” uses secret gang documents and interviews with insiders to tell the story of Chicago’s Latino gangs efforts to establish a new national organized crime outfit centered in Chicago.

Hagedorn will be at the bookstore, 5751 S. Woodlawn Ave., at 6 p.m. Tuesday to explain how the plan fell apart in a very bloody way during an ambitious peace conference.
