CHICAGO — A Rogers Park shooting left a 23-year-old woman wounded Saturday, police said. She was the second young woman shot in the area within 24 hours.

At 6:05 p.m., the woman was walking to her car in the 6900 block of North Greenview Avenue when someone walked up to her and shot in her direction, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman. The shooter drove off in a dark-colored car and the victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital.

The woman was shot in her hip, stomach and arm and was in "stable" condition, Estrada said.

There might have been an altercation between the woman's boyfriend and the shooter before the incident, police said. Officers are still investigating to determine if the woman was targeted or if she was an unintended victim.

On Friday night, a 19-year-old Loyola student was shot and seriously wounded in the 6700 block of North Clark Street. In a later statement, Loyola said that the student was an unintended victim. "Witnesses report seeing a gray-colored Nissan Altima flee the scene of the shooting," the statement said.

Police said they are treating the two incidents separately and that it is unclear if Saturday's victim was a Loyola student.

There was no campus alert issued for Saturday night's shooting.
