NORWOOD PARK — Oriole Park will host its first Valentine's Day Dance as a new advisory council continues its efforts to bring new life to the park.

The free dance will feature a DJ, music and dancing as well as Valentine's Day-themed crafts from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 6 at Oriole Park, 5430 N. Olcott Ave., organizers said.

Food will be sold. Donations will fund enrichment classes and events at the 18-acre park, organizers said.

"Everyone is invited to come have some fun and enjoy time with family and neighbors," said Liz Dechant, president of the advisory council, which meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at the field house.

During the last four years, the park has seen its budget cut in half as the park district — like all city agencies — struggles to make ends meet in an era of budget deficits.

The event is also sponsored by the Chicago Park District and Ald. Anthony Napolitano (41st.)
