Six Ransacked Vehicles in Mount Greenwood Lead to Police Alert

MOUNT GREENWOOD — The Chicago Police Department issued a community alert after six vehicles were ransacked in Mount Greenwood.

The alert released late Friday said all of the vehicles were unlocked and targeted between 2-5 a.m. sometime this month.

The thefts occurred in the:

• 10500-10600 blocks of south Albany Avenue

• 10700 block of south Troy Street

• 11200 block of south Spaulding Avenue

• 10300-10400 blocks of south Sawyer Avenue

One witness said a white man with short sandy hair and a light complexion was spotted after an incident on Jan. 16.

He was further described as between 25-35 years old and about five feet, two inches tall. The man weighed roughly 155 pounds and was wearing a black coat while carrying both a backpack and black plastic bag.

In the wake of the incidents, the police alert reminded residents to always lock their vehicles and keep anything of value out of sight. Police also asked concerned residents to call 911 upon spotting any suspicious people or vehicles.
