ALBANY PARK — The application deadline to take the Chicago Police Department exam is fast approaching.

Prospective candidates have until Jan. 31 to sign up to take the police academy entrance exam, the first step in the process toward becoming an officer. A pair of upcoming open houses are aimed at walking people through the application process and what to expect next.

Open houses are scheduled for:

• Saturday, noon to 3 p.m., Albany Park Branch library, 3401 W. Foster Ave. There will be computers available to apply for the exam onsite.

• Tuesday, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Roosevelt High School, 3436 W. Wilson Ave.

Applicants must be 18 years old by Feb. 29 in order to sit for the exam. The exam itself will be given April 16 and 17.

Preference will be given to veterans and Chicago Public Schools graduates. Click here for an FAQ that includes details about the documentation required to apply for preference.
