Armed Robber Demands $1,000 in West Beverly, So Victim Writes Check: Police

WEST BEVERLY — A man armed with a gun demanded $1,000 from a man on a West Beverly street Wednesday evening — and the victim complied by writing him a check, police said.

The robber, Deon Alexander, 19, of south suburban Calumet Park, was captured a short time later, police said.

The victim was outside in the 10300 block of South Artesian Avenue at 5:30 p.m. when Alexander walked up to him with the gun and demanded the money, police said. He ran off after getting the check, police said.

Alexander has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, police said.
