MOUNT GREENWOOD — A man suspected in a robbery spree that included a convenience store in Mount Greenwood had been out of prison for only 3½ months before landing back behind bars, authorities said.

Kenneth Kroenert, 56, of suburban Alsip is a suspect in the Monday morning robbery of the 7-Eleven Store at 10301 S. Sawyer Ave. in Mount Greenwood, Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) said.

He's also a suspect in similar crimes in suburban Evergreen Park and Oak Forest. Kroenert was staying in a hotel in nearby Oak Lawn at the time of his arrest Tuesday night, O'Shea said.

O'Shea sent an email about the arrest to constituents on Wednesday afternoon saying Kroenert also was wanted for a domestic battery in Alsip.

The Chicago Police Department directed all inquires on the arrest to the Oak Lawn Police Department on Wednesday afternoon. Calls to the Oak Lawn police were not returned by Thursday morning.

In another story posted online Wednesday evening, a chief with the Oak Lawn police said charges had not yet been filed against Kroenert.

Kroenert was previously convicted for robbery in 1994, 1996, 2002 and 2008. At the time of his arrest he was on parole after serving 7½ years of a 15-year sentence, having been released from prison in early October, according to records from the Illinois Department of Corrections.
