CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Board will hold a meeting Thursday night to gather more community input on the search for a new Police superintendent.

The meeting will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Chicago Public Safety Headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Community members will be given the opportunity to members of the police board as it looks to hire to hire a new superintendent to replace the ousted Garry McCarthy.

Members of the public who sign up in advance to speak will be called first. Members of the public who sign up as they enter the meeting will then be called if time allows. To ensure that as many people as possible can participate, speakers will be limited to two minutes each.

The police board received an earful from community members as well as activists and protesters when it previously met on Jan. 12 at the Kennedy-King College auditorium.

“A large number of people asked questions and offered comments on a wide range of important issues at our Jan. 12 community input session,” board president Lori Lightfoot said. “We welcome additional public comment and will give it our full consideration as we move forward in interviewing candidates and selecting three nominees for the superintendent’s position."

The application for the superintendent position was made available on Dec. 10. Candidates were given until Jan. 15 to complete and review it. The police board is now reviewing applications and will be interviewing candidates.

Members of the public wishing to sign up in advance to speak at the meeting must call the Board’s office at 312-742-4194 by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
