Woman Pulled a Gun on U. of C. Student Who Wouldn't Give Her $8: Officials

HYDE PARK — A University of Chicago student was robbed at gunpoint outside the Reynolds Club on Monday night after denying a woman $8 and directions to a shelter.

At approximately 8:50 p.m. a student leaving the Reynolds Club, 5706 S. University Ave., was asked by a woman estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old for $8 and directions to a shelter, according to University of Chicago police.

When the student claimed he had no money, the woman, who was white and about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and dressed in all white, allegedly pulled out a handgun, according to police.

“Do you have any money now?” she said, according to police reports.

The student then ran away and escaped unharmed, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call the Chicago Police Department area central bureau of detectives at 312-747-8382 or University of Chicago police at 773-702-8181.
