CHICAGO — A police officer was fired after the Office of the Inspector General found he had written false reports and perjured himself, according to a report.

The officer wrote false reports about the 2010 arrest of a man for possession of heroin and later, at a bench trial and hearing, the officer perjured himself in the case, according to the Inspector General report. A security video of the 2010 arrest showed the officer's reports and testimony "were clearly fabricated," according to the report.

The man who had been arrested was acquitted of a felony drug charge and received a $99,000 settlement from the city, according to the report.

In August 2014, the police department started investigating the officer. The department recommended the officer be fired, and the Police Board approved the dismissal Nov. 19, 2015, according to the report.

The officer has filed a lawsuit to get his job back.
