LINCOLN PARK — Sunday brunch plans just got a whole lot better.

Firecakes Donuts will open its second location Sunday in the former Caribou Coffee, 2453 N. Clark St., the doughnut restaurant announced in a news release Friday.

To sweeten the deal, the shop is offering one free doughnut — no purchase necessary — to the first 100 customers over the first three days of operation, beginning Sunday and ending Tuesday.

During the three-day stretch, Firecakes' River North location, 68. Hubbard St., and its "Billy" doughnut truck will also be celebrating by holding prize drawings. Patrons can win free donut dozens, limited-edition Firecakes T-shirts and more. One lucky customer will win the grand prize, which is a private party for up to 75 people catered by the doughnut truck.

The Lincoln Park shop will specialize in the same small-batch, old-fashioned doughnuts and La Colombe coffee sold at the River North spot.

Cinnamon rolls, a larger bacon long john (maple cream filled with peppered, candied bacon) and a black-and-white doughnut are some of the treats patrons can expect.

Co-owner Jonathan Fox told DNAinfo Chicago in September said his shop is unique because of the quality of ingredients. For example, the chocolate comes from France, jelly fillings are made with fruits from local farmers and all doughnuts are made on-site.

The result is a doughnut that is "very light in texture and rich in flavor," he said, comparing it to a brioche.

Firecakes' Lincoln Park location will be open 7 a.m.- 9 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays, 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
