PORTAGE PARK — A grant designed to help the owners of vintage homes stay warm during the winter is available through the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association, officials said.

While many Chicago bungalow owners love their vintage homes, the brick houses can be drafty when the temperature drops below zero, association officials said.

The group's energy savers grant covers the installation of attic insulation as well as the sealing of drafts and cracks in attics, basements and sidewalls, officials said.

To qualify for the $3,600 grant, homeowners must earn no more than 80 percent of the area's median income, which is $60,800 for a family of four, according to city officials.

More than 4,000 members of the association have taken advantage of the grant, group officials said.
