The State of the Chicago River? Frozen

By David Matthews | January 13, 2016 2:42pm

CHICAGO — The bitter cold that's sweeping over the city this week has already had its way with the Chicago River.

The tributary that splits Downtown and normally flows west out of Lake Michigan was frozen solid Wednesday amid single-digit temperatures. The deep freeze makes for a cool sight, albeit an uncomfortable one if viewed outside.

The cold is expected to last through the weekend, when temperatures could reach 20 degrees but also drop below zero, according to the National Weather Service
