LOGAN SQUARE — A popular Brooklyn-based pizza shop is planning to open its first Chicago location in Logan Square.

Paulie Gee's had been looking for a Chicago spot for more than two years and finally settled on a Milwaukee Avenue location, according to owner Paulie Giannone's Instagram account.

"For those of you in Chicago, keep an eye on 2451 N Milwaukee Avenue. There are gonna be some serious changes goin' on," Giannone wrote over the weekend.

The opening, which was first reported by Eater, will be in the former Candela Latin Cuisine & Bar.

The first Chicago Paulie Gee's will be operated by Derrick Tung, who previously ran a mobile pizza concept called Za Pi.

Za Pi closed in 2014.

"After two years of searching, negotiating, arguing, posturing, and multiple disappointments... I finally have keys to what will soon be Paulie Gees Logan Square. Let the real fun begin!" Tung posted.

Paulie Gee's has locations in Brooklyn, Baltimore, Miami and Columbus, Ohio, and has received rave reviews for its Neapolitan-style pizzas.

The story of how Giannone, the owner and head pizzaiolo at Paulie Gee's, came to open his first restaurant is a special one.

The then-56-year-old quit his job in IT and followed his dream of opening a world-class pizzeria, according to a Serious Eats profile.

After being rejected by another pizza restaurant where he hoped to learn a bit about making pizzas before treading off on his own, he decided to go for it back in 2010.
