CHICAGO — Another dead bird has been found on Jarvis Beach.

Gregg Mrowka, 35, of Rogers Park, was walking his dogs on the beach when he came across a "fairly decent-sized chicken wrapped in a pink, plastic bag," he said. Mrowka and his girlfriend called 311 and told the city about the bird, but he's concerned the chicken might have been sacrificed.

It's not the first time Jarvis Beach has seen possibly sacrificed animals: In early November, a bag with at least five birds, a fish, fruit and money was found on the beach.

Elizabeth Ruiz, a spiritual counselor, said that package was likely meant to financially "jinx" someone. The birds were sacrificed to "do the bidding" of whoever was beyond the ritual, Ruiz said.

Mrowka said it's concerning that he doesn't know why the chicken was sacrificed. It's the first time he and his girlfriend have "seen that kind of stuff," he said, though they'd read about animal sacrifices on the beach.

"I don't even know why they would be sacrificing them. It's weird," Mrowka said. "I'm a firm believer in animal rights ... life being shortened through sacrificial reasons is not cool in my book."
