Three Charged in Blue Line Armed Robbery

CHICAGO — Two men and a teenager were charged with robbing a man at gunpoint on the Blue Line early Tuesday.

The incident occurred on the Blue Line shortly before 5 a.m. when three people approached a 23-year-old man sitting on the train told him they'd rob him, police said.

One of the suspects implied he had a gun and hit the victim before running off with his belongings.

The three were caught after police chased them down on foot near Wicker Park's Damen Blue Line station. The stolen items were recovered.

The victim had a cut over his left eye but refused medical treatment.

James Phillips, 25, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street in the Near West Side and Bryan W. Mitchell, 24, of the 1600 blcok of West LeMoyne Street in Austin were both charged with felony aggravated robbery with a firearm.

A 17-year-old boy who was not named by police was also charged with felony aggravated robbery with a firearm as well as two counts of felony robbery.
