LINCOLN SQUARE — The Fifty/50 group on Monday night introduced Lincoln Square to its new neighborhood-focused cocktail bar, The Sixth.

"We really wanted it to be a neighborhood spot first and foremost. There will be destination drinkers here, but it's really for Lincoln Square" residents, said David Andrews, a spokesman for the group.

The Sixth, 2200 W. Lawrence Ave., opened for the first time around 5 p.m. Monday next door to Roots Pizza, which is also owned by the restaurant group. The bar hopes to provide Lincoln Square residents with upscale cocktails at neighborhood prices, according to a press release.

"We'd been looking in the area for a couple of years. Once we were doing Roots up here we knew we definitely wanted to do cocktails also," Andrews said.

The bar has seating for about 50 with 15 stools at the bar and plenty of seating in booths along the walls. The "whimsical" menu features about 10 fun cocktails ($12), 30 beers by the bottle, four beers on draft and 25 wines sold by the bottle or by the glass, he said.

Full Cocktail Menu:

• Doris: gin, lemon, flower water and salt

• Patina: vodka, aperol, cucumber and grapefruit

• Autumn into Summer: apple brandy, bourbon, sherry, clove and vanilla

• Silly Rabbit: gin, orangey orange, lemony yellow, raspberry red and grapity purple. The drink was inspired by the breakfast cereal Trix.

• Spaceman Spiff: Mezcal, grilled pineapple, hazelnut and cedar. The drink was inspired by the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes.

• Statler and Waldorf: white rum, Amer Bigallet, seasonal fruit and mint. The drink was inspired by "The Muppets" characters Statler and Waldorf.

• Saturnus: Aquavit, brandy, falernum and ginger. The drink pays homage to the area's Swedish roots by inserting Aquavit into the traditional tiki cocktail.

• Bracer: rye, stone pine, amaro and porter. The Bracer is a salute to "Game of Thrones" fans and is served in an ox horn mug. Bracer is also the name for the leather strap that protects an archer's arm while shooting.

• Weston: wheated bourbon, Dark Matter's Unicorn Blood and pipe tobacco.

Though Roots is next door, food from there will not be allowed in the bar. The bar menu offers doner and frites for $14 or a side of frites for $5.

"Guests will be given the friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable service and should be comfortable ordering anything from a mass market canned lager, to a vodka & soda, to carefully-crafted esoteric cocktail, to a glass of small-production orange wine, to a rare out-of-production spirit from just after Prohibition ended, and everything else," the press release said.

The bar will be open daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. except Saturdays when it will stay open to 3 a.m.
