1 Dead, 13 Others Wounded in Shootings Since Friday, Police Say

CHICAGO — One man has died and 13 other people have been wounded in shootings throughout the city since Friday, according to police, one of the highest daily totals since winter began.

Gun violence claimed victims on each side of Chicago, including a one-hour period early Saturday when five people were shot. Three of the overnight shootings were in East Garfield Park, and one victim was 16 years old.

The city had recorded five days without a gun homicide before Friday.

In the single fatal shooting, a 19-year-old man was killed while sitting in a car in Washington Heights late Friday, police said.

• Most recently, a 18-year-old man was shot in Greater Grand Crossing early Saturday, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman. The man was in the 7100 block of South Dobson Avenue at 5:35 a.m. when he was shot in the abdomen, Estrada said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, Estrada said. The man was uncooperative with police, he said.

• A 28-year-old man was shot while riding in a car in Logan Square at 3:55 a.m., Estrada said.

Two men were shot and injured at 2:55 a.m., Estrada said, on the same block where Albany Park held a peace march last week.

• A 16-year-old boy was shot in West Lawn early Saturday, Estrada said. The boy was walking in the 5900 block of South Hamlin Avenue at 2:40 a.m. when two men approached and one opened fire, Estrada said.

He was struck in his left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Estrada said.

• A 28-year-old man was shot in East Garfield Park early Saturday, Estrada said. He was in an alley in the 3100 block of West Walnut Street at 2:30 a.m. when someone approached and opened fire, Estrada said.

He was struck in his shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital in "stable" condition, Estrada said. Police could not say the extent of his injuries.

• A 46-year-old man was injured in a Heart of Chicago shooting early Saturday, Estrada said. The man was getting out of his car in the 2100 block of South Wolcott Street at 2:15 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, Estrada said.

He was struck in his buttocks and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, Estrada said.

• A 37-year-old man was shot in East Garfield Park early Saturday, Estrada said. He was in a parked car in the 3600 block of West Ohio Street at 1:40 a.m. when someone opened fire, Estrada said.

The man was struck in his torso and managed to get himself to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Estrada said.

• A 20-year-old woman was shot in Englewood early Saturday, Estrada said. She was driving eastbound in the 700 block of West Garfield Boulevard at 12:54 a.m. when someone in another car opened fire, Estrada said.

She was struck in her back and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious conditon, Estrada said.

• A 32-year-old man was shot in Austin Friday night, Estrada said. The man was in the 5500 block of West Adams Street at 7:40 p.m. when shots rang out, Estrada said.

He was struck in his torso and managed to get himself to Laretto Hospital before being transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Estrada said. The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• A 45-year-old man was shot in South Chicago Friday night, Estrada said. The man was outside in the 9200 block of South Baltimore Avenue at 7:09 p.m. when a car stopped, someone got out and opened fire before fleeing in the car, Estrada said.

He was struck in his buttocks and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in "stable" condition, Estrada said. The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• A 28-year-old man was injured in an Auburn Gresham shooting Friday afternoon, Estrada said. The man was in the 8300 block of South Damen Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when shots rang out, Estrada said.

He was struck in his buttocks and leg and got himself to Advocate Christ Medical Center where was listed in good condition, Estrada said.

• A 26-year-old man was shot in East Garfield Park Friday afternoon, Estrada said. He was in the 400 block of South Spaulding Avenue at 1:15 p.m. when someone opened fire, Estrada said.

He was struck in his side and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition, Estrada said. The man is a documented gang member and was being uncooperative with detectives, police said.
