EDGEWATER — If you've not yet seen it, there is a pink, 20-story "X"-shaped building that sits at the crown of Lake Shore Drive, just off the Bryn Mawr Avenue exit.

And from its 19th-floor security stairwells, the building offers magnificent and unique views of the city from each direction.

"It's amazing, there's nothing else like it that I've seen in Chicago," said Eric Okeson, who moved into his unit in the Edgewater Beach Apartments three years ago after Lakeview became "too dense and expensive."

Okeson's south-facing view gives him glimpses of Downtown, including the Willis Tower, as well as Lake Michigan and Lake Shore Drive. He said it offers the best seat in the house on the Fourth of July.

Until about 1968 or so, that residential tower was the Edgewater Beach Hotel, which drew presidents, celebrities, athletes and visitors from around the world. Views of Wrigleyville and Downtown are still visible. [DNAinfo/Linze Rice]
